The details
Due to concerns regarding high rates of water waste from the splash pad, Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray's Office closed the splash pad in 2023 for renovations to create a more efficient system.
"When I took office, this splash pad was consuming and put into the ditch about 10 million gallons of fresh water a year," Gray said during the reopening ceremony. "About $100,000 of taxpayer funds were spent to pay that water bill annually."
Gray said his office worked with the East Montgomery County Improvement District and the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber to fund the improvements to the splash pad, which included adding a new recirculating pump and filtration system.
In their words
- "We will continue to invest into our county parks and our community parks and make this a safe, great place to raise our families," Gray said.
- "It is truly an honor and pleasure to finish this project. We look forward to working with our local elected officials to do more projects and parks," EMCID Board Chair Brenda Webb said.
- "Community amenities are so crucial and important and this period of growth for our community, to be able to have this is a big deal," GEMCC President and CEO Mark Linabury said. "It's going to add value, and that's what we love to do as a chamber, and that's what we love to do as a community."
