On Dec. 12, the U.S. Census Bureau released new five-year data for 2023 as part of its American Community Survey. The new data represents a five-year estimate of the population across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to the bureau website. This data compares with the 2018 survey results, which studied the country from 2014 to 2018.

The total population of the New Caney-Porter area grew by nearly 30% over five years, rising from 60,140 in 2018 to 77,795 in 2023, according to bureau data. The New Caney population grew by more than 37%, while the Porter population grew by nearly 24%.Additionally, data shows the New Caney-Porter population has gotten younger in recent years. The median age of residents in New Caney decreased from 32 in 2018 to 31.1 in 2023, while the median age of residents in Porter decreased from 37 to 34.8 in the same time frame.Meanwhile, data also shows the New Caney-Porter population is becoming more diverse. While the percentage of residents who identify as white has decreased from 56.44% in 2018 to 44.34% in 2023, the percentage of residents who identify as Hispanic or Latino, Black or African American, and Asian have increased.
