Montgomery County Precinct 4 will host a community engagement meeting April 2 to allow residents the opportunity to learn more about the county's $480 million road bond ahead of the May 3 election.

The details

According to a March 31 Facebook post from Commissioner Matt Gray's Office, the event will be held April 2 from 6-7 p.m. at the EMC Community Development Center, located at 16401 First St. in Splendora. The event will be an open house-style event, during which residents can interact one-on-one with representatives to ask bond-related questions and offer feedback. Questions and feedback can also be submitted via email at [email protected].

How we got here

On Feb. 11, Montgomery County Commissioners Court unanimously approved putting a $480 million road bond on the ballot for the May 3 election—the first county bond in 10 years. If approved by voters, each of Montgomery County's four precincts would receive $120 million to complete projects within their precincts, and bond funds would be issued annually through 2029.

As previously reported by Community Impact, a total of 76 bond projects have been announced for Montgomery County, including 18 projects in Precinct 4, which encompasses East Montgomery County. For a complete list of Precinct 4 projects, click here.

The funding source

John Robuck, managing partner at BOK Financial—the county's bond counsel—previously said the bond initiative should not result in a property tax increase if approved by voters. Robuck said this is because the county has lowered its debt service over the last several years to allow for the issuance of $120 million a year in debt using the county's current funding collections.
