A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 18 for New Caney ISD’s Highlands Middle School, said Scott Powers, the district’s executive director of public relations, via a June 23 email. The ceremony was hosted by Caldwell Communities, which is the developer of the neighborhood where the school will be located.

Highlands Middle School is slated to be complete in the fall of 2027, according to NCISD. The 215,100-square-foot campus will be built by Drymalla Construction.

The new middle school’s construction is expected to cost $60 million, and the project is funded by NCISD’s $695 million bond package, which was approved by voters in May 2023.
