The Splendora ISD Education Foundation will host a series of literacy events throughout June and July to keep kids engaged over the summer break, nonprofit officials announced in a May 27 news release.

What parents should know

Geared for Splendora ISD students in grades K-5, this community-wide initiative will offer a fun and interactive way to strengthen reading skills and promote a lifelong love of books, per the release. During each event, the Foundation will provide free books, resources and prizes to attendees, as well as a complimentary dinner for students and their families. While the events are free to attend, preregistration is required as space is limited.

Each event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in accordance with the following schedule:The summer reading program is made possible with support from the Junior League of The Woodlands and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, per the release.

"Our summer reading initiative is focused on meeting students where they are—both academically and geographically," Foundation Coordinator Katie Key said via the news release. "By centering our efforts on our youngest learners, we're helping build a strong foundation for success in school and beyond."
