A New Caney ISD assistant principal has been chosen to lead Tavola Elementary in the 2025-26 school year, which begins Aug. 6.

Gipsy Leal—assistant principal at Sorters Mill Elementary School—was promoted to principal after the district’s board of trustees approved the change during the May 19 meeting. Leal will be replacing Kristie Kelley as principal, according to Tavola Elementary’s website.

“I look forward to bringing new ideas, building strong partnerships, and improving systems to help every student succeed,” Leal said via a NCISD news release.

According to the news release, Leal has 16 years of experience in education, including her past positions as:Leal also has a bachelor’s in bilingual education from University of Houston-Downtown and a master of education in educational diagnostician from the University of St. Thomas.
