Lavanderia Express—a locally- and immigrant-owned business—will mark one year since opening in Porter with a celebration on Aug. 24, according to an Aug. 11 emailed statement from the business owners. Rajesh Sapkota and Sadhana Sharma Luetel own the laundromat together.

“This anniversary is a celebration of our customers,” Luetel said via email. “We came to this country with a vision, and now we get to live it every day, because of the people who continue to support us.”

Lavanderia Express offers self-service washing as well as folding services, according to the business’s website. Sapkota said upgrades to the washateria have been completed since it opened, including:
  • An expanded folding space
  • A kids' corner
  • Drop off/pick up laundry service
The Aug. 24 anniversary celebration will be held from noon-8 p.m. and feature free treats, prizes, live music and family-friendly activities such as face painting and a foam play zone, according to the email. Lavanderia Express is located in the La Marketa de Porter shopping center, which was completed in 2024.
