Original Kingwood AC & Heating opened its doors in 1982 and since then, has been providing heating, ventilation and air conditioning services to Kingwood residents for the better part of 40 years.

The history

The idea for the company came when owner and founder Stephanie Marquard said she noticed a need for HVAC work in Kingwood. Despite being a speech pathologist at the time, the Kingwood resident said she thought she could help meet the needs of the growing community.

Marquard said the company started with one pickup truck and the dream of becoming a staple in the HVAC industry.

“It was somewhat of a jump. I was teaching at the time, noticed a gap in the market and decided that's where my interest lied,” Marquard said.

Marquard said the company got the ball rolling by providing quality work and making sure it was consistent with its marketing and advertising. Marquard said organizations like the Air Conditioning Contractors of Greater Houston—which she was the first female president of—and the Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association—which she was the first state president for—were instrumental in helping her overcome the hurdles that came with the business.

“We belong to and believe in [the] professional organization[s] that the industry offers,” Marquard said. “We have been very dedicated and loyal to these because they have given us the tools and a lot of direction.”

What they offer

Today, the business has expanded its team and office to provide mainly residential work to those within a 20-mile radius of Kingwood. According to its website, services include:Original Kingwood AC & Heating only hires trained technicians and is licensed by the Department of Licensing and Regulation to provide customers with the best possible service, according to its website.

Measuring the impact

The company’s slogan is “We take care of our neighbors,” and that expands far beyond its HVAC work, Marquard said. It gets involved in the community in other ways by supporting Little League teams, football teams and Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure, a foundation dedicated to ending breast cancer.

“Our customers support us so we want to give back and support them in any way we can,” Marquard said.

What’s next

The business plans on expanding its services to include generators in the next year, Marquard said.
