Two-minute impact
According to a May 6 news release from the club, the purpose of the food drive was to help restock food pantry shelves for local nonprofits ahead of the summer months. Club officials noted local grocery stores provided support to help volunteers work throughout the day staffing tables, transporting and sorting food.
Quote of note
"The generosity of our neighbors in helping others in need was awe-inspiring and exceeded any expectations we had. I can honestly say our hearts were filled with joy at the kindness of our community," said Janis Fowler, community food drive chair and vice president of philanthropy for the Kingwood Women's Club.
Some context
The Kingwood Women's Club was founded in 1985 with the goal of improving the Kingwood community through active leadership and volunteerism with projects that target community involvement, cultural arts, social welfare and education.
