Work to clean out a drainage ditch near Kingwood High School is expected to be ongoing through Aug. 29, according to a press release from the Houston City Council District E Office.

What's happening?

Per the release, the project area runs along the Kings Forest Greenbelt Trail between Kingwood Drive and Woods Estates Drive. Work began in late June and includes:
  • Clearing and grubbing approximately six acres of land
  • Removing and disposing of debris, trash and tires at a landfill
  • Removing trees
City officials noted that any trees removed to access the ditch will be replanted at a later date by the District E Office with help from local nonprofit Trees for Kingwood.

What to expect

Throughout the project's duration, construction is expected to take place from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and on some Sundays.

While there are no planned impacts to the sanitary sewer system, officials noted some minor water line adjustments may be necessary for the project, and residents will be notified 72 hours in advance of any water outages.

City officials also noted flagmen and orange traffic cones may be on-site to guide traffic as needed; however, the project is not expected to cause any mobility issues. Residents may also notice elevated noise levels in the area due to construction equipment.

Funding the project

The $350,568 project is being funded through the Houston Public Works Dedicated Drainage & Street Renewal Fund, per the release.
