Cars parked illegally in Humble for two days or longer could now be fined $50-$200 after Humble City Council updated the city law July 24.

What happened?

Humble city law dictates that the owner of a vehicle cannot park on a street near residential or commercial property that the driver doesn’t own without the property owner’s permission, according to July 24 meeting documents. The law was tweaked to add a penalty for cars parked illegally for two or more days, consecutively or not.

City Council unanimously approved the ordinance revision July 24, with council members Andy Curry and Rick Swanson absent.

Quote of note

“We actually already had a habitable parking ordinance on the books; however, it wasn't exactly clear, and it did not have a penalty attached specifically to it,” City Manager Jason Stuebe said July 24. “That has ... caused some issues was prosecuting those cases through the municipal courts, and this aims to clear that up.”
