City of Humble officials are hosting a grand opening celebration Jan. 30 for the roughly $6.1 million replacement of Humble Fire Station No. 2.

The details

The grand opening celebration will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the new fire station, which is located at 1401 S. Houston Ave., Humble.

Humble officials noted the event will give attendees a chance to tour the new facility and meet their local firefighters and paramedics.

How we got here

The replacement for Fire Station No. 2 was first approved by Humble City Council in May 2021.

As previously reported by Community Impact, Humble Fire Department Chief David Langenberg said the previous Humble Fire Station No. 2, which was located on Wilson Road, posed several challenges for the department due to its aging infrastructure.

Officials said the new fire station was originally projected to cost $4.5 million when it was designed in 2018, noting supply chain issues and inflation have caused the new station’s cost to rise.

A closer look

Officials noted the new fire station is the first station built in Humble since 1990. The roughly 12,000-square-foot facility is located about a mile from the Humble Civic Center and Arena Complex.

Langenberg said the new station will house both fire and emergency medical services, noting the previous station only housed an EMS unit. He said the additional fire response units at the new station will split fire apparatuses and EMS apparatuses evenly throughout the city.

Additionally, Langenberg said a training component will be included outside the new station.
