Humble ISD trustees are set to consider appointing Interim Superintendent Roger Brown as the district’s next superintendent at a Jan. 8 meeting.

The special-called meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 8 at the district’s Board, Business & Technology Center, located at 20200 Eastway Village Drive, Humble.

How we got here

During the board’s Dec. 17 meeting, trustees named Brown as the lone finalist for the superintendent position. The move came roughly three weeks after trustees voted 6-1 in favor of formally terminating former Superintendent Elizabeth Fagen’s contract.


In May, trustees voted 4-2 in favor of placing Fagen on paid administrative leave before voting 4-3 in July to propose the termination of her contract.

Brown, who was named interim superintendent at the board’s Nov. 26 meeting, had been serving as acting superintendent since Fagen was placed on paid leave.

Career history

Brown was initially hired to serve as the district’s associate superintendent of support services in 2014 before being named deputy superintendent in 2017.


According to a Dec. 17 news release, Brown earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma as well as a doctor of educational leadership degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Brown began his career in education as a high school history teacher in Oklahoma in 1984. According to the news release, Brown took on several roles throughout his roughly 30-year stint as an educator in Oklahoma, including assistant principal, middle school principal, director of secondary education and assistant superintendent.

“I have four grandchildren in this district," Brown said. "I’m vested in this district. This is home. I don’t see leaving this school district ever."
