Humble ISD officials held an April 22 groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of Lake Houston Middle School.

The overview

Lake Houston Middle School, which is scheduled to open before the start of the 2025-26 school year, will be located on West Lake Houston Parkway and Timber Forest Drive near Centennial Elementary School in Atascocita.

The new middle school was included in a roughly $775 million bond package approved by voters in May 2022. Construction on the project began in November, district officials said.

Officials said the roughly 213,000-square-foot, three-story facility is expected to cost about $80.8 million and is designed to house around 1,100 students.

HISD Superintendent Elizabeth Fagen touted the new campus during the ceremony.

“We’re really excited to have this campus as our final middle school in Humble ISD and are very excited about the design,” Fagen said. “We think it will be a state-of-the-art design, just like many of our other campuses, that is a pride in our community—one that enhances home values and drives folks to our community.”

According to an April 23 news release, the campus will feature three stories with one grade housed on each level. Additionally, officials noted each floor of the building will feature an outdoor learning area.

The new middle school will serve students residing in neighborhoods zoned to Autumn Ridge and West Lake middle schools, with the potential to take on some students zoned to attend Woodcreek Middle School, according to the news release.

What’s next

Officials noted once attendance boundaries have been approved, families residing in the new campus’ boundaries will be invited to help select the school’s mascot.
