Officials notes guest teachers are responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
Humble ISD trustees first approved the temporary pay increase of an extra $40 per day in September 2021 due to challenges rising from the COVID-19 pandemic in the fall semester. The temporary pay was scheduled to end at the conclusion of the fall semester but has now been approved to be extended throughout the 2021-22 school year.
With the extra $40, district officials said guest teachers will continue to earn $120 per day with 60 or more college hours, $130 per day if they have a degree and $140 per day for certified teachers. For a retired Humble ISD teacher, the rate is $175 per day.
In addition, guest teachers can earn an additional $10 a day in certain special education and bilingual positions and an annual $500 stipend if they work 100 or more days in the school year. Lastly, an additional $10 per day is provided for Monday and Friday assignments.
“People who work in education bring to the job a passion for serving children and the community,” said Rick Gardner, Humble ISD associate superintendent for human resources, in a news release. “Our principals, teachers, students, and families appreciate all those who serve as guest teachers.”
Requirements to be a guest teacher include 60 or more college hours and a background check. Applications can be found at www.humbleisd.net.
