What to expect
As previously reported by Community Impact, the $2.5 million, 8,500-square-foot facility is being renovated from an existing building in Atascocita Park, and will feature:
- Classrooms and large community rooms
- A kitchen and a coffee bar
- A possible generator so the center can be used as a cooling/warming center during extreme weather conditions
What's in a name
Precinct 3 officials announced in October the community center would be named after Judge Ted Poe, who represented U.S. Congressional District 2 from 2005-19. Prior to that, Poe served as Harris County district judge from 1981-2003 and as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney's office.
