Unofficial results point to record-breaking voter turnout in Fort Bend County following the first day of early voting Monday.
According to an unofficial report from the Fort Bend County Elections and Voter Registration office, 18,182 ballots were cast Monday, not counting mail-in and limited ballots. The number surpassed the county's previous high of 13,264 votes cast the first day of early voting in November 2012, the report said.
Due to the high turnout, the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court approved extending early voting location hours for Thursday and Friday.
All Fort Bend County early voting locations will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 and 28. The originally scheduled hours were from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Missouri City Community Center: 1,525 votes
Fort Bend County Rosenberg Annex building: 1,315
First Colony Conference Center: 1,111
Sienna Branch, Fort Bend County Library: 1,047
More than 15 million Texas residents registered to vote this election, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office, a record figure and a 5 percent increase from the primaries earlier this year. In total, about 78 percent of voting-age Texans are eligible to vote between now and Nov. 8, Election Day.
