Two-minute impact
The proposed commission aims to provide students with opportunities to participate in civic engagement, community service projects, and enhance the city’s policies and decision making, Communications Coordinator Mariah Gallegos said.
The commission will be made of eight eligible students with two alternates who will serve on the board this August through next June, she said. Eligible students must be Fulshear residents and be going into 10th through 12th grade at the time of application.

What they’re saying
Mayor Don McCoy and council members, including District 2 council member Patrick Powers, expressed their interest in the program. Powers emphasized the impact leadership programs can have on students' future involvement.
“I’m certainly in favor of this,” he said. “I think anytime we can get the youth involved in civic engagement, ... they grow up to be engaged and volunteer for their community.”
Looking ahead
A resolution to approve the program is expected to appear on the agenda at City Council’s next meeting April 15.
If approved, applications will open on the city’s website May 1 with a deadline of July 1, Gallegos said. Selected students will receive acceptance notifications Aug. 4.
