The gist
To help reduce congestion along FM 1093, FBCTRA officials are working with Harper Brothers Construction to develop an additional 4 miles of the Westpark Tollway, bringing its new end near Charger Way in Fulshear, said Lisa Castañeda, deputy operating officer with Mike Stone Associates, which manages the FBCTRA.
The existing 22-mile tollway begins in the Uptown District near the Galleria and runs west to Fulshear, ending just west of Spring Green Boulevard.
The nearly $72 million project will continue the tollway with two lanes in each direction in the middle of FM 1093’s east and westbound lanes, requiring no additional right of way.

In December, FBCTRA officials partnered with the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, the city of Houston, and Fort Bend and Harris counties to determine the feasibility of a adding 16 miles of tollway with the Westpark Tollway Study, Community Impact reported.
What they’re saying
When the Westpark Tollway originally finished construction in August 2005, the area westward where Fulshear sits today was not nearly as developed, though it has expanded quickly over the last couple of years, Castañeda said.
“[We want to] keep people moving; ... [residents] want to have a nice place to live and don't want to have unnecessary congestion,” she said. “[The tollway] should help with commuters and just to improve the transportation network in Fort Bend County.”
Looking ahead
Construction on the extension is expected to begin in August and open to vehicles in August 2026, Castañeda said.
