Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital has completed another milestone in its ongoing $167 million expansion.

The gist

On Sept. 11, community members and Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital officials gathered to celebrate the completion of phase one of the hospital’s emergency center and surgical department expansions, which is part of the hospital’s ongoing expansion announced in early 2023.

According to a Sept. 11 hospital news release, the emergency center and surgical department expansions in phase one included:
  • Additional treatment rooms, including two trauma rooms
  • Another CT scanner
  • Upgraded equipment
  • Three additional operating rooms with shell space for three more
These expansions will also help the hospital as it works toward a Level 2 trauma center designation, said Vivien Bond, chief operating officer for Memorial Hermann Katy.

What they’re saying

“Across the Memorial Hermann Health System, we work every day to create healthier communities through personalized care,” said Jerry Ashworth, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Katy and Memorial Hermann Cypress hospitals. “I cannot think of a better way to provide personalized care to the patients of the Katy area and beyond than through this much needed expansion.”

Looking back

According to the release, several projects in the expansion have already been completed, including:
  • Addition of Katy’s only pediatric care unit and a 40-bed adult intermediate care unit
  • Additional parking garage with 700 spaces
  • Medical Plaza 3, which is ready for tenant buildout
  • Relocation and expansion of the hospital’s nursery
  • Expansion of the cardiac catheterization lab
  • Expansion of food services
An additional project is also underway for the women’s services department to double the number of obstetrical emergency rooms, and adding more labor and delivery rooms and a cesarean section suite, according to the release.

What’s next?

Phase two is set to provide additional renovations to the emergency center and is expected to be completed in late summer 2025, according to the release.
