The Fort Bend County Libraries System will have a new leader this fall.

The overview

At an Aug. 27 meeting, Fort Bend County commissioners announced the appointment of Roosevelt Weeks as the new Library Director for the Fort Bend County Libraries System.

The appointment comes after the June 7 retirement of former Library Director Clara Russell, who had served in the position since October 2009. The position was held in the interim by Assistant Library Director Monique Franklin since June 11.

Digging in


According to an Aug. 29 news release, Weeks has over two decades of library leadership, including his most recent role as Library Director at the Austin Public Library System for seven years. He also held several roles at the Houston Public Library, including deputy director and chief of staff as well as chief technology officer.

Weeks received his undergraduate degree in computer science at Texas Southern University and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas in library science, according to the release.

Roosevelt will begin his director role in Fort Bend County on Oct. 7, according to the release.
