What residents need to know

At an Aug. 12 meeting, Katy City Council approved two design and construction contracts with ARKK Engineers LLC for parking lot improvements at the Municipal Court as well as the intersection of Second Street and Avenue A.

Council approved a $64,675 contract to replace an asphalt and gravel parking lot with concrete, bringing 68-78 parking spots to the northwest corner of Second Street and Avenue A near downtown.




According to agenda documents, the project will also add:
  • New sidewalks with curb ramps
  • New concrete driveways
Community Impact reached out for more information on the timeline for design and engineering, but it was not returned by press time.

Construction is estimated to cost $500,000-$600,000, according to agenda documents.

What else?


A second $53,330 contract will add parking spaces to the city’s Municipal Court, located at 5432 Franz Road, Katy. The expansion will replace a grass area with 42 additional parking spaces as well as add:
  • Security fencing around the parking lot area on the rear side of the building
  • A motorized sliding gate with keypad entry
  • New storm sewer drainage pipes
  • Sidewalk extensions


A topographic survey began on Aug. 13, and construction is expected to begin in early January and wrap up in May, City Engineer David Kasper said.

ARKK Engineers estimated $312,000 in construction costs, according to agenda documents.
