Fort Bend County Animal Services is going mobile for adoptions.

The details

Fort Bend County commissioners approved the purchase of a $217,250 mobile adoption unit for animal services at a May 14 meeting.

The 26-foot vehicle, which is set to be built by Magnum Mobile Specialty Vehicles, will include cages, cabinets, countertops and storage, according to agenda documents.

By the numbers

Fort Bend County Animal Services has seen an overage in the number of dogs in its care, according to 2024 shelter statistics reports.
The shelter has enough room to house about 90 dogs, Community Impact reported in mid-November. With 168 dogs housed at the end of April, it’s the lowest number in the monthly report since at least January; however, it’s about 86% over the shelter’s dog capacity.

As of April 15, the shelter was no longer taking animal intakes, according to its website.

Looking ahead

The build time for the mobile unit is approximately five months upon completion of a floor plan and initial payment, according to agenda documents.
