Updated 5:30 p.m. March 7

Two incumbents held onto their seats in their respective Texas House of Representative races in the Katy- and Fulshear-area, while one incumbent was overcome by a challenger, unofficial final voting results from Fort Bend County show.

The details

With all Fort Bend County voting centers reporting, Matthew Morgan unseated incumbent Jacey Jetton in the Republican race for House District 26; Morgan garnered 53.81% of the votes while Jetton had 38.65% and candidate Jessica Huang had 7.54%.

Morgan is the owner of a public insurance adjusting company in Fort Bend County. In an interview March 7, Morgan said his family has a long history in Texas, with his lineage tracing all the way back to the “Old Three Hundred.”

He said his top priorities if elected include addressing border security and public education.

“I appreciate the support of the primary voters coming out for me,” he said. “I’m looking forward to unite and to actually go and represent every person in the district and work to have good lines of communication with ... the people so that I can advocate for them—their issues, their problems—in Austin.”

Jetton, a small-business owner and Texas Army National Guard soldier, has served two terms on the Texas House of Representatives. In a phone interview March 6, Jetton said he's most proud of his contribution to constitutional carry law, pro-life efforts, election integrity laws and his work on the Texas border, to name a few.

"We were able to get a lot accomplished," Jetton said. "Outside of the session, being able to serve the community and work with nonprofit organizations like Attack Poverty and serving the community for last two terms has really been a blessing for myself and also to the team."

What else

Meanwhile, in the Republican House District 28 race, incumbent Gary Gates beat Dan Mathews with 61.06% of the votes. In the Nov. 5 election, Gates will face off against Democratic candidate Marty Rocha, who won against Nelvin J. Adriatico with 57.03% of votes.

In a phone interview March 6, Gates said he believes his race was competitive due to his vote to move forward with Attorney General Ken Paxton's 10-day impeachment trail in September; following Paxton's acquittal in the trial, Gates said he apologized to Paxton and received his endorsement.

"We'll start focusing on the November election, and I'm going to be working hard on my election and continuing to make sure that [former] President [Donald] Trump prevails, and I'm going to work hard to make sure I expand our lead in the November election," he said.

Finally, results from the Texas Secretary of State office's website show Stan Kitzman won his re-election bid in the Republican primaries for House District 85. Kitzman has 66.64% of votes while opponent Tim Greeson has 33.36%.

Community Impact did not receive a comment from Kitzman by press time.
