What priorities do you have over the course of your term if elected?
I will continue to fight to secure our border and reduce property taxes. Last year, I authored and supported legislation to provide $6.64 billion in border wall construction and border security. Texas also passed a historic $18.1 billion in property tax relief, but there is more to do.
What minor initiatives or problems do you feel should be given more attention at the state level?
While the state of Texas is spending more on education than ever before, not all funds are making it to our teachers and classrooms. As we continue to invest more in education, Texas should also reform the education funding system to increase transparency and accountability with those education dollars.
How will you work with other local, state and federal leaders to address flooding issues?
I have established relationships with elected officials at the local, state and federal level to find innovative solutions to address flooding in our area. Texas made new investments into flood mitigation last session, but this problem needs continued cooperation from leaders committed to finding solutions, not just talking about it.
What budget priorities should the state focus on in the next legislative session?
As Appropriations Article II chairman, I have a unique vantage point into ensuring our tax dollars are being spent appropriately. I am proud of the balanced, conservative budget passed last session, and I committed to ensuring property tax relief continues for Texans, as well as further investments in education.
What’s the biggest issue facing District 26, and how would you begin to address it?
As a fast-growing district, one of my priorities has been working with TxDOT and Commissioner Vincent Morales to expand Hwy. 99/Grand Parkway through the Katy area to better fit the transportation needs in our district. Our infrastructure must keep pace with the growth of our community.
