Unofficial results from the Katy ISD bond election indicate voters approved Propositions A and B, which equates to 95% of the $840.6 million in improvements in the 2023 bond program.

Propositions C and D failed to gain the necessary votes to pass, which places plans to upgrade swimming and other athletic facilities on hold.

KISD will be able to move forward with plans for new facilities, campus renovations for aging buildings and structures, safety and security improvements as well as advancements in technology districtwide.

“Yesterday’s election outcomes reflect the trust and confidence Katy ISD voters have placed in our schools. With our community’s overwhelming support of the bulk of the 2023 bond program, we are strategically positioned to deliver continued student improvement in safe and up-to-date learning environments, all while experiencing tremendous growth,” Superintendent Ken Gregorski said in a statement released by the district Nov. 8. “Our staff and campuses remain steadfast in fulfilling our commitment to Katy students and families. We wish to express our deep gratitude to our community for their support.”

According to the release, the official canvassing of the election will be conducted in a special called meeting of KISD trustees on Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy.

The breakdown

  • Proposition C: $4.2 million for renovations to competitive swimming facilities
  • Proposition D: $29.88 million for athletic facilities repairs including Rhodes Stadium
Taking a step back

The passage of the bond propositions would result in an increase in the district’s debt, not a property tax rate increase, according to the district’s website.

The official ballot language on each of the propositions states otherwise, although the amount required to service the new debt is built into each proposition.
