On the menu

On the food and beverage side, the venue will offer pizzas, chicken wings, soft pretzels, corn dogs, french fries and tater tots. There will also be a small bar where guests can order bottled beer and wine, according to the release.

Why it matters

Taroko Sports is meant to bring batting cages back to the forefront of entertainment, Gordon Hsieh, founder and CEO of TRK Corp., Taroko USA's parent company, said in the release. The technology-driven entertainment space puts a spin on the classic American pastime via its immersive gaming elements, he said.

"Batting cages have become ubiquitous with training and are too often seen only as a means for serious baseball athletes to improve their hitting prowess as they seek to advance in their career,” Hsieh said in the release. "Our goal is to broaden the appeal of the batting cage, which can be fun for all baseball skill levels, and bring it out of tucked away facilities."

What else?

The Taroko Sports leadership team chose Katy to open the first in a series of U.S. facilities. Other locations are set to open in California, Arizona, New York, Florida and another city in Texas, per the release.
