Temperatures will soar across Houston this week, prompting authorities to take action to protect residents.

Several public facilities have been designated as emergency cooling centers to provide relief from the extreme heat.

Citizens will find relief at the designated cooling centers, where they can seek respite free of charge. The operating hours for these centers vary depending on the location and the day, ranging from 8 a.m.-noon and 5-9 p.m.

Most of the libraries in Fort Bend County have been transformed into cooling centers to accommodate the community's needs, and their hours will be consistently updated by the county online.

In a social media statement, Fort Bend County officials highlighted the severe rise in temperatures and its potential dangers to the community.

Discussions are taking place with the Attack Poverty initiative to open up additional shelters, and the operating hours of these facilities will be communicated via Fort Bend County's website and social media once finalized.

The Fort Bend County Department of Public Transportation provided transportation options for residents needing transportation to the cooling centers. Bus schedules and relevant information will be shared throughout the week to assist people in accessing these facilities.

“Be cautious with outdoor activities and stay hydrated!” county officials said via social media.
