Zooming in

City Council unanimously approved a resolution assigning $24,750 toward designing improvements at the learning center, according to agenda documents.

The money will cover preliminary design plans, design development, construction documents, bid services and construction observation, said Kevin Browne, director of Katy's Parks and Recreation Department.

According to agenda documents, plans will include the following at the learning center:
  • Trail system layout
  • Landscape and irrigation design
  • Decking and outdoor learning areas
  • Trails and signage
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing design
  • Site furnishings

What’s next

Once the design is complete, the project will be put out for bid, Browne said. The initial opinion of probable costs is $164,205, but an updated projection will be submitted with the final design before bids are made.
