The city of Katy will begin construction of its citywide trail system in 2026.

In a nutshell

At a May 12 meeting, Katy City Council approved a $348,120 design contract with ARKK Engineers for Phase 1, which includes approximately two miles of the citywide trail system. Phase 1—which is expected to cost nearly $1.9 million—will create a 12-foot concrete trail from Morton Road to 10th Street, according to agenda documents.

In addition to designing the first phase of the trail, the contract also includes designing a traffic signal at the intersection of Franz and Scott Ranch roads, according to agenda documents. The traffic signal will include pedestrian buttons to ensure safe crossing access.

Officials previously said additional trail segments will be completed as part of street and roadway mobility projects, including:
  • 10th Street from Bartlett Road to Avenue C
  • Avenue C from 10th Street to Historic Town Square
  • Morton Road from Cane Island Branch to Pitts Road
  • Pitts Road from Morton to Leyendecker Landing Park
What’s next?

Design is expected to wrap up in December, City Engineer David Kasper said.

The city will then enter a two-month construction bid phase before constructing the first phase over approximately 10 months, officials previously said.
