Located at 25030 Longenbaugh Road, Katy, the North Transportation Center will become the fourth transportation hub in the district, joining the East, West and South Transportation Centers that serve more than 95,000 students daily, according to a Dec. 8 news release.
Designed to support the expanding northwest portion of KISD, the new facility will provide services for campuses including Boudny Elementary, Cross Elementary, Youngblood Elementary, Nelson Junior High and Freeman High schools, per the release.
Call to action
According to the release, KISD is inviting community members to participate in the naming process online, with required nomination materials including:
- A completed nomination form
- Biographical or historical information
- A description of significant contributions made by the individual or group
- A statement explaining why the facility should carry the proposed name
Community feedback will also be collected before sending the recommendation to the school board for final approval.
The bigger picture
While demographic reports show KISD’s enrollment is stabilizing due to lower birth rates and student-to-home ratios, growth continues in the northwest region through housing developments including Grange, Ellyson, Anniston, Bridgeland and Sunterra, officials said last month.
The localized growth is currently posing a challenge for facilities that are overcapacity in the region, with Youngblood Elementary, Nelson Junior High and Freeman High schools to likely require rezoning in the next decade, demographers said.
Moving forward
The deadline to submit naming nominations is 4 p.m. Jan. 5, per the release.
