At the organization's 47th anniversary event, dubbed "Best in the West," about 1,000 attendees welcomed over $397,000 in preliminary income, Chief Executive Officer Laura LaVigne said.
"This was one of the most successful events we've ever hosted," she said in an email. "Our community showed up in full force to support our fundraiser and The Arc’s mission, and we are truly grateful."
The gist
The organization’s mission is to provide opportunities that enhance the quality of life for people with IDD, including autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy, per the website. The Arc advocates for inclusion in schools, workplaces and the wider community.
The organization also offers programs in recreation, social activities, employment assistance and housing support, and hosts the largest Special Olympics program in the area, per the website.
Organization officials attend transition fairs across the county where parents can learn about resources available to their students once they age out of public school resources.
Get involved
Volunteers ages 14 and older can apply to participate in monthly Teen/Tween Social Nights, which offer games, crafts and other activities in an inclusive environment. Volunteer activities may also include assisting with social and recreational programs, sports, crafts and board games, per a representative.

The Arc also accepts donations, including money, gifts and sponsorships, to support its programs and services.
Moving forward
The 48th Annual Best in the West is set to take place Nov. 21, 2026, LaVigne said, where the organization will continue to add "fresh new twists to keep things exciting."
