Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens emphasized the importance of transparency and public engagement, inviting questions at upcoming town halls and bus tours.
"There’s a lot of misinformation on Facebook. But we have town halls, bus tours and our website—ask us anything and we’ll give you the answers," he said at the Sept. 16 board meeting.
The details
To ensure residents are fully informed, Chief Operating Officer Greg Buchanan said the district has scheduled several bond town halls from 6:00-7:30 p.m., including:
- Sept. 24 at Terry High for residents zoned to the campus and Lamar Consolidated High, or blue and red tracks
- Sept. 30 at Fulshear High for those zoned to the campus, or the purple track
- Oct. 1 at Tomas High for those zoned to the campus and Foster High, or green and gold tracks
- Oct. 6 at George Ranch High for those zoned to the campus and Randle High, or maroon and silver tracks
Zooming in
The $1.99 billion bond is designed to address continued enrollment growth, modernize educational facilities and replace aging infrastructure across the district, officials said.
If approved by voters, the interest and sinking, or I&S, portion of the tax rate, which pays off debt, would see no change, although the bond would bring the district’s outstanding bond debt from $3 billion to approximately $5 billion, Buchanan said.
