Katy ISD is opening its 47th elementary campus, Alfred & Ann Boudny Elementary, this fall.

Located at 7402 Katy Hockley Cut Off Road, the new school is named in honor of two of Katy ISD’s veteran educators, Alfred, or Al, and Ann Boudny, who collectively dedicated over six decades to the district, officials said.

“One of the most exciting things to me as the principal is showcasing [the new school],” Principal Felicia Ashabranner said. ”It's going to be the No. 1 school in Katy.”

The gist

Funded by the 2023 voter-approved $806.56 million bond, Boudny Elementary aims to serve the northwest quadrant of KISD, currently the district's fastest-growing area, according to district documents.

The $58.3 million Boudny Elementary will feed into Nelson Junior High and then Freeman High School, officials said.

With a capacity of 1,280 students, the campus will provide critical relief to several nearby schools experiencing rapid enrollment increases, officials said.

“This first year, we will not have all of our pods full,” Vice Principal Patty Wagner said, “But by next year, maybe by Christmas, we're expecting to have full pods.”

The details

Each grade, or “pod” includes its own bathroom facility and common space for student activities, Wagner said. Additionally, each classroom is equipped with an hallway learning space, providing students a quiet, flexible environment for independent or technology-based work.

The two-story building was designed with all primary grades downstairs for accessibility, while the fifth grade classrooms are grouped separately upstairs to provide students with independence as they prepare for junior high, Wagner said.

Next steps

Ashabranner said she invites parents to attend one of several events as the school prepares to welcome students and family to their new home:
