From Cajun cuisine to comfort food and machine-cooked Asian cuisine, read these six dining updates across the Greater Houston area, including local restaurant staple highlights and restaurants that recently opened or are coming soon, as reported by Community Impact.
After announcing they would open four locations in the Houston metro area this year, iWok has brought the idea of a “future kitchen” to Katy residents during a soft opening phase, officials confirmed. The Asian-fusion, fast-casual restaurant operates by having employees prepare and portion ingredients so automated machines can heat them up in a wok to be sent back to those same employees for plating, according to a company news release.
Comfort Foodies, a Latin Caribbean soul food fusion restaurant, is set to open a second location in Missouri City, officials confirmed. The restaurant features Dominican and Southern menu items, including oxtails, pork chops, catfish wings and empanadas, according to its website.
H&H Bagels in New York City is described as a "landmark joint" for classic bagels, spreads, smoked fish and desserts. Now, the NYC-based bagel shop is planning to open its first location in Texas. A project filing by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists that the 1,534-square-foot bagel and coffee shop is slated to open in the River Oaks Village in 2026. Construction is set to begin in May and wrap up in late August. However, details are subject to change.
The menu offers items such as dry-aged duck with dark cherry au jus and the chef's nightly steak with pommes dauphinoise. Appetizers include cast-iron Parkerhouse rolls, tuna tartare and scallop crudo, with desserts such as Ferrero Rocher tiramisu and profiteroles. Guests can also order a la carte from the full dinner menu.

At La Argentina Gelato, customers can enjoy scratch-made gelato with recipes created by Mansilla herself. During a process that can take hours, Mansilla creates 20 signature flavors of gelato daily while swapping out a few seasonally.
