The big picture
The city joined the program in August, after pinpointing it as an “excellent fit” for Katy and its ongoing efforts to promote tourism, support local business and position itself as one of Texas’ premier destination communities, Tourism and Events Coordinator Kaci Maris said in an email.
“No Label isn’t just a brewery; it’s a community gathering place and a regional success story,” Maris said. “By joining this program, the city of Katy is supporting local entrepreneurship, driving tourism and celebrating one of our community’s greatest success stories.”
About the program
Launched in March 2024 by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild, the Brew City, Texas program aims to generate economic development and tourism through craft beer to further the state as a beer destination, Community Impact reported.
Craft beer contributes more than $5.3 billion annually to Texas’ economy and supports over 30,000 full-time jobs, with 80% of travelers researching food and drinks before visiting a destination and 70% factoring it into their travel decisions, Maris said.
The program has two options for cities and municipalities to join, including:
- Craft beer destinations: cities known for their craft beer scenes
- Emerging brewscapes: small communities looking to stimulate economic development by attracting their first brewery
Katy joins 42 cities throughout the state that are in the program, including Austin, Lubbock and Waco, and is the seventh Greater Houston-area city to partner with the program, joining Conroe, Fulshear, Galveston, Lake Houston, Pearland and Sugar Land.
Get involved
The public is encouraged to download the mobile Texas Brewery Passport app, which offers a full list of over 200 guild brewery members. The app allows users to add stamps to their digital passport to earn badges and collect points to redeem for prizes and merchandise, Texas Craft Brewers Guild officials previously said.
