A new elevated senior living community, The Watermark at Houston Heights, opened its doors in late April at 1245 W. 18th St., Houston.

The building spans seven stories high with 222 residences. According to a press release, the community offers independent senior living, assisted living and memory care in collaboration with the Houston Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The goal of the community is to “promote a spirited lifestyle and vibrant longevity,” the release said.

“With the grand opening of The Watermark at Houston Heights, our goal is to provide a service- and amenity-rich community, where members can enjoy a vibrant lifestyle with ready access to various levels of care,” said David Freshwater, CEO of Watermark Retirement Communities, in the release.

The Watermark at Houston Heights marks the company’s first Elan Collection property in Texas. According to the release, communities in the collection feature a wide range of amenities, activities and integrative wellness, along with a resort lifestyle.

Kristi Roberts, managing director of Watermark Retirement Communities, told Community Impact Newspaper that the Heights location offers a 24-hour concierge service; housekeeping; four restaurants; an outdoor heated pool that can be used for aerobics classes and therapy; a salon with an on-site spa; a sports simulator; an art room; and fitness rooms. All of the different amenities promote the option for seniors to have a choice and control in their lives, she said.

“When a community comes to life is when you start to see them gathering,” Roberts said. “It’s really the people who are going to make a difference here. My favorite part about the property is not only the residents but the choices we can offer them so they can thrive and live their best life.”
