A well-known Austin eatery, Gabriela’s is making its way to Midtown this spring with a new location opening at 1910 Bagby St., Houston.

Gabriela’s first opened in downtown Austin in 2018 as a modern Mexican restaurant. According to a Feb. 21 press release, the move to Houston comes after an “overwhelming demand from fans.”

According to the release, the Midtown concept is the latest for Gabriela’s Group—an independent and Latin-owned restaurant management, design and concert promotion group by siblings and Michoacán, Mexico, natives Gabriela and Arturo Bucio.

Patrons can expect a menu similar to the Austin location, with inspiration from the owners’ Michoacán family recipes, according to the release. Some of the dishes available in Austin include choriqueso, birria tacos and veggie enchiladas.

Gabriela’s Houston location will also continue the chain's bar program. According to the release, the menu includes options with freshly squeezed juices and natural fruits such as tamarindo, mango and grapefruits. Two of their popular menu items include a J Balvin margarita and a Bad Bunny margarita, both of which come with heart-shaped sunglasses for guests to keep.

According to the release, the siblings want to continue the group’s expansion into Houston and beyond. Other Austin-area concepts from Gabriela's Group include Mala Vida, Taquero Mucho, Gabriela’s Downtown, Revival Coffee and Seareinas.
