A number of events are set to take place in August in the Heights, River Oaks, Montrose and surrounding areas, including sunset bingo at Levy Park, White Linen Night in Garden Oaks and the fifth annual Mariachi Festival.

Trail Mix: The M-K-T shopping center puts on this monthly event outdoors on the first Saturday of each month. The show features live music from artist Andyroo, magic from father-and-son magicians Dave and Jake Rangel, and pop-up shops. August’s show features giveaways from restaurant Menocino Farms.'Cyrano De Bergerac': The Houston-based group Zoom Shakespeare Productions presents a new adaption of the romantic play by Edmond Ronstadt.White Linen Night in Garden Oaks: Officials with the Stomping Grounds and Jim Beam partner to host a Garden Oaks version of the popular Heights-area event. The event features a Pop Shop America Market, whiskey sampling and live music from Bayou City Funk. Guests are encouraged to dress in the finest white linen outfits.Sunset Bingo: Expect music from DJ Del Sur, food from Gaspachos Mexican Bites and Kind Ice Cream, and drinks from Money Cat. Prizes include gift cards from several businesses, five pairs of tickets to The Color Factory, a one-day membership to Gent’s Place and a one-night stay at the Hyatt San Antonio River Walk.Painting in Late Medieval Siena: The Italian Cultural & Community Center hosts a lecture on painting in late Medieval Siena led by Judith Steinhoff, a teacher and researcher who specializes in Italian Art. In her lecture, Steinhoff will provide context to selected masterpieces from the era, including works by Duccio di Buoninsegna and Ambrogio Lorenzetti.

Class of ‘99 Reunion: The Rooftop Cinema Club in Uptown Houston honors the class of 1999 with a 25-year reunion party and a showing of the iconic teen movie “American Pie.” Tickets to this 18 years and older event get attendees to the movie screening and after party.Poems of Their Future | An evening of poetry and performance: The event features poetry, music and dance in response to Theaster Gates: The Gift and the Revenge, building on themes of history and heritage and their existence in Freedmen's Town. Performances come from Houston Poet Laureate Aris Kian, and award-winning composer and Freedmen's Town resident Avalon Hogans, among others.

Butterfly Walks: Buffalo Bayou Partnership hosts a discovery tour of local butterfly species. Former director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center, Nancy Grieg, will lead participants on a 3-mile nature walk to explore butterflies’ life cycle and habitat starting from Buffalo Bayou’s Jackson Hill Bridge.5th Annual Mariachi Festival: The festival is held each year with the goal of celebrating and promoting Hispanic culture. Performers include Oscar De La Rosa, Mariachi 7 Leguas, Mariachi Mariposas and Mariachi Imperial de America.Unbound Closing Reception: This is the final opportunity for viewers to see an outro film at Mieve Gallery and Studio, which chronicles artist Keda Sharber’s immersive art experience. The exhibit aims to challenge the participants' beliefs in culture and community, health and wellness, and career and education.In Person: Jodi Picoult: Brazos Bookstore hosts author Jodi Picoult for an appearance and discussion at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, promoting her new novel entitled “By Any Other Name.” Entry gets attendees a copy of a pre-signed book.
