Local artist April Murphy is hosting a public art project alongside the Midtown Management District on March 29, allowing the residents of Midtown to join her as she transforms the Midtown letters at Bagby Park, 415 Gray St., Houston, into a “whimsical design” live for all to see.
The event, which runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., is being held to commemorate and honor the 15th anniversary of Midtown Art in the Park and the 10-year anniversary of Midtown Houston receiving its designation as a Texas Cultural Arts District.
The artwork's theme is “Bloom Where You’re Planted,” officials said. Each letter will be given an additional theme expressed through Murphy’s art “to display messages of hope,” such as mindfulness, inclusivity, diversity and wisdom, according to a news release from the Midtown Management District.
An artist talk and interview will also take place at 12:45 p.m. on March 29. Murphy will discuss her artistic approach along with how she was funded by the Midtown Cultural Arts District to hold the art installation.
