The Asian Night Market is bringing its two-day celebration of Asian food, dance and music to the Railway Heights food hall Feb. 5-6 for an event that will celebrate the Vietnamese New Year.

The event, typically hosted every two months by the Vietnamese Community of Houston and Vicinities, is coming to Railway Heights for the first time, said Quốc-Anh Trần, the president of the organization. It has previously been hosted at the Hong Kong City Mall, but after scaling down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was moved to the Vietnamese Community Center on Clarewood Drive in Houston.

"We want to expand our outreach by promoting Asian food at new locations from now on in addition to the Vietnamese Community Center," Tran said. "Railway Heights is a very beautiful place to hang out. It supports local and small businesses. We do the same, so it makes sense to collaborate."

The purpose of the event is to promote Asian cultures, food and music, Tran said, including Japanese, Thai, Loa, Cambodian, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures. Vendors consist of small-restaurant owners and professional street food vendors.

"Most foods are unique, which you can't find in the restaurant," Tran said.

With the Vietnamese New Year taking place Feb. 1 this year, the Asian Night Market will celebrate with a dragon dance, an Ao Dai Vietnamese dress fashion show and a traditional men's dress competition, Tran said.

If the event is a hit with customers, Tran said the organization will look to host future Asian night markets at Railway Heights as well. Vendors looking to take part in the market can contact Hillary Dinh at 281-610-9175 or at [email protected] to apply.

The event will run from 3-10 p.m. on both days Feb. 5-6. Railway Heights is located at 8200 Washington Ave., Houston.
