It is possible to practice safe social distancing and have a little adventure or help people in the community. Here are five ways to make the most of social distancing for Heights, River Oaks and Montrose residents.

Donate critical medical supplies

The Astros Foundation and Project CURE, a national nonprofit focused on medical supply donations, is hosting a supply drive April 9 for face masks, gloves, gowns, goggles, hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol and thermometers from noon to 3 p.m. at Minute Maid Park. Donations must be in sealed, complete boxes.

Attend a virtual Fotofest talk

While Fotofest had to cancel almost all of its events, it will launch a series of talks, starting April 8 with artists leo and Shobun Baile. The talk will be streamed through Zoom and YouTube, with moderated questions from the audience.

Color inside the Loop (and the lines)

Visit Houston, the visitors bureau for the city, released a Houston coloring book featuring murals and other designs paying homage to the Bayou City. Download and print the PDF, find some colored pencils or crayons, and have at it.

Admire overlooked architecture

Preservation Houston, a nonprofit dedicated to advocating for historical preservation efforts across the greater Houston area, has started a photo series on Instagram highlighting the hidden treasures that can be found in a walk through some of Houston's oldest neighborhoods. Follow the organization's photo series on Instagram and post your own neighborhood shots using the hashtag #builthouston.

Rock out with the ROCO

The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra has canceled all of the remaining live concerts in its 2019-20 season, but the organization has captured several past performances that can be enjoyed any time and anywhere. Find recorded concerts at its Listening Room or its YouTube channel.
