During a May 11 meeting, Houston City Council approved a $20,432 purchase for maintenance and repair services for two odor control towers for the 11th Street Lift Station Wastewater Plant.

The purchase of the services will allow Houston Public Works to repair nonoperable equipment as well as provide maintenance needed to fix the excess odor issue residents are facing, the ordinance said.

The odor control facilities can be found at 2100 W. 11th St., Houston, near the T C Jester Boulevard intersection and the Timbergrove Manor Subdivision.

According to District C Council Member Abbie Kamin, complaints from the area have been an ongoing issue. She said the bad odor has affected neighborhoods and made its way into surrounding schools as well.

At the May 11 meeting, Kamin said she is appreciative of the item, but that more work needs to be done because she is hearing similar complaints from those who live near the Willow Meadows treatment center. She said she will push for whatever they can get done at that location, too.
