City of Houston residents living in District C will have three candidates to choose from during the Nov. 7 election for their Houston City Council representative.

District C covers western parts of Houston's inner loop, including Lazybrook/Timbergrove, Memorial Park, parts of the Washington Corridor, Montrose, the Rice University area and Meyerland, among other areas. The seat is up for election every four years. Abbie Kamin was elected to the position in 2019 and has filed to run again in a race where she will face off against freelance grant writer Perata "PB" Bradley and retiree Felix Cisneros.

Read Q&As with each of the candidates below, and look out for future Q&As with candidates running for Houston mayor and the city's at-large Council seats.

Perata PB Bradley

Experience: Certified nonprofit professional and multi-disciplinary artist

Occupation: Freelance grant writer

Why did you choose to run in this election?

I witnessed firsthand the lack of representatives, especially in City Hall who truly comprehend the challenges faced by my community and other communities. The abuse of authority and power in City Hall was troubling to say the least. I decided to run to represent the people of Houston!

If elected, what would your top priorities be entering your first year in office?

My top priority is to bring accountability, transparency, and solutions that work to City Hall. If elected my first year top priorities will include addressing critical issues like affordability, outdated infrastructure to include drainage, essential services, and lastly crime.

What do you think are the biggest issues right now facing District C residents?

District C residents grapple with overdevelopment, inflation, outdated infrastructure causing flooding, sanitation, crime, high living costs, and city hall's unresponsiveness.

Why did you choose to run in this election?

Because we need major change in the [city of Houston]. Safety is most important in District C. Crime is up, and I'm unsafe in our neighborhoods. And we need major changes to protect families and homes.

If elected, what would your top priorities be entering your first year in office?

[The] first priority to enter this year would be major changes. I'm protecting our neighborhoods from crime.

What do you think are the biggest issues right now facing District C residents?

To protect District C. Seeing more [Houston Police Department] patrols on streets; more funding for the [Houston Fire Department]; more affordable housing for the homeless population; protection for our children that [are] going to school; less guns in our neighborhoods.

Abbie Kamin

Why did you choose to run in this election?

To continue our progress: expanding neighborhood safety and police patrols; tackling domestic violence and gun violence; advancing neighborhood drainage projects in areas including Greater Heights, Montrose, and Meyerland; improving dangerous intersections, school crossings, and sidewalks; creating the Houston Women’s Commission; passing paid parental leave policy for city employees and more!

If elected, what would your top priorities be entering your first year in office?

Public safety, infrastructure, and neighborhoods. I will continue to support critical safety initiatives, technology upgrades, and policies that reduce domestic violence and gun violence. I remain laser-focused on flood prevention and resiliency, building on what we’ve already started. I will continue working closely with residents to improve our neighborhoods.

What do you think are the biggest issues right now facing District C residents?

There’s much to do but we’re making meaningful progress. I’m excited to bring our new gun violence injury dashboard online and see our safe storage program working. Violent crime and homelessness have seen double-digit decreases, and we’re focused on protecting neighborhoods, whether from loud bar noise, dangerous crossings, or flooding.
