The University of St. Thomas hired Sinda K. Vanderpool as the institution's 10th president, according to a July 8 news release. She succeeds the Rev. Dempsey Rosales Acosta, who served as the interim president.

What to know

Vanderpool holds a doctorate in French literature from Princeton University, a bachelor’s degree in French from Davidson College and is an alumna of Lamar High School in Houston, according to the release.

Previously, Vanderpool served as the associate vice provost for student success at Baylor University. She was also the president and vice chancellor of St. Mary’s University, where she increased enrollment, increased revenues from private and public entities and emphasized student success, according to the release.
