The Upside Pub, located in the Garden Oaks area off of North Shepherd Drive, will close on July 5 after three years of service, owners Paige and Andy Lujan announced on their social media page in mid-June.

"While we may not have been successful by traditional business standards, we like to think we were successful in creating a place within our neighborhood to come and enjoy good food, good drink and good company," the statement read.

The announcement came shortly after the owners of Mi Tierra Mexican Kitchen on Mangum Road declared that they would also be permanently closing their restaurant. The two establishments are roughly a nine minute drive from each other. Neither owners gave specific reasons for the closures.

While Mi Tierra still stands closed, a new restaurant is preparing to move into the Upside Pub spot once it is vacated.

The owners of Texadelphia announced on their Facebook page June 12 that the Austin-based franchise would be taking over the space at 3402 N. Shepherd Drive.

Troy Pidgeon, the franchise owner, said in a post that he was interested in the pub because of its location, vibe, staff, equipment and furniture.

"Texadelphia is a small, Texas franchise concept with eight location, and we have three of them," he wrote. "I hope to serve the Garden Oaks community with the same laid back, full bar that has been there for years. We are just going to be bringing cheese steaks into the picture."

What's on the menu

Texadelphia was created in 1981 from founder Joel Stanley who moved from Philadelphia to Austin. The restaurant's website says that Stanley wanted to bring his passion for Philly's iconic cheese steak to Texas, thus creating Texadelphia.

The franchise sells classic cheese steaks with beef or chicken, onions, mozzarella and housemade sauce, along with additional options that include jalapenos, bell peppers, guacamole, bbq sauce and veggies.

The menu also includes wings, wraps, burgers, salads and chips and dips.
