The West Gray Street spot will mark the fourth location of Kitchen & Cantina in Houston, but restaurant officials said this time, the new restaurant will open with an adjoining tequila-forward watering hole called Bar Buena.
Tucked behind the main restaurant on the corner of West Gray and McDuffie, the under-the-radar, cavern-like bar is inspired by the ancient artisanal process of mezcal making, a tradition that involves harvesting, cooking, fermenting and distilling the agave plant. The agave-focused menu will feature cocktails such as the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, the Batanga, the Ranch Water and a variety of different margaritas. What's on the menu
According to the release, Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina is known for its fusion of authentic Mexican food, smoky South Texas staples and Gulf Coast cooking. The restaurant's chefs hand grind their own sausage, roll fresh tortillas in the bakery and hand trim every ounce of meat in the butchery before spreading it with savory seasonings and marinades.
The restaurant portion of the new concept will include guest favorites, including mesquite-grilled fajitas, redfish on the half shell, carnitas, tampiqueña and tres hombres plates. Customers can also order from a select menu of lighter bites at Bar Buena such as gulf crab tostada, carnitas flautas and aguachile verde. The restaurant is scheduled to open in March with additional details about the new restaurant anticipated to be announced at a later date, per the release.
