Mexican Sugar representatives announced the opening date for its debut Houston restaurant at the Regent Square in River Oaks mixed-use development will be sometime in December.
The details
The 13,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant will offer Mexican flavors, handcrafted cocktails and a patio destination, according to an Oct. 31 news release.

With seating for 375 guests, the design of Mexican Sugar's Houston locale is meant to capture the essence of cosmopolitan Mexico City, according to the release. Design elements include candles, lush textiles, curated tequila displays and artworks by local artists to highlight Mexican culture and craftsmanship.
“Our goal is to create a dining experience that blends bold Mexican flavors with our signature style of hospitality that stays two steps ahead,” Justin Beam, director of operations for Mexican Sugar, said in a statement. “We’re excited to offer Houstonians an immersive Mexican experience in a fresh, light and approachable way.”
On the menu
Mexican Sugar will utilize seasonal ingredients to craft every dish from scratch, per the release. The restaurant will feature more than 150 tequilas and mezcals.

Hand-pressed tortillas made daily from heirloom masa, cocktails with freshly squeezed juices, angus skirt steak, lobster fundido, bone-in pork chops and ceviche are just a few elements of the eatery's menu.

The restaurant will also offer brunch, with plates including French toast, benedicto rancheros and vanilla cinnamon pancakes.
