Afuri Ramen, a popular Tokyo-based ramen brand, announced it will expand into Texas with its first location coming to the Heights.

What's special about it?

According to an Oct. 9 news release, the restaurant is rooted in authentic Japanese flavors. The menu is centered on the eatery's signature yuzo shio ramen, which is a light broth made from a reduction of local chicken, dry fish, seaweed and vegetables layered to produce a complex umami flavor.

Other standout ramen combinations include the tonkotsu shio, a tonkotsu broth soup with scallions, kikurage mushrooms, black garlic oil and thin noodles; and the zen ramen, a chicken broth soup with shio tare and garlic chips. The zen ramen is customizable with guests able to add toppings, meats and noodle substitutions.

Additional menu items include sushi, sashimi, handrolls, curated small plates, Japanese fried chicken, steamed rice and the Basque cheesecake, a featured dessert of yuzu custard, whipped cream and candied hazelnuts.
