Officials with the Dandelion Cafe opened the eatery's newest location inside the Heights Clock Tower in September.

Staying local

The family-owned Houston restaurant was founded by Sarah Lieberman and JC Ricks in Bellaire in August 2016. The duo later expanded to Rice University's Engineering and Science building in January 2024. Now, they are opening the doors to the Houston Heights.

The Heights location is situated inside the historic Heights Clock Tower. The clock tower is one of Houston's oldest buildings and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Tenants include real estate companies, photography studios and corporate headquarters.

The 3,500-square-foot space, the latest of the cafe's locations to date, will include a wrap-around coffee bar with bar-height seating, a shaded, dog-friendly patio and a number of private rooms for rent. According to a Sept. 17 news release, the Heights kitchen is six times larger than the Bellaire location and includes a large wooden service window for guests to get a peak into the behind-the-scenes operations.

What's on the menu?

Dandelion Cafe is renowned for its creative, scratch-made, all-day breakfast choices. Menu items include breakfast tacos, avocado toast, housemade biscuits and jam, a build-your-own omelette option, french toast and pancakes.

The cafe is also known for its chicken and waffles, which won a local competition in 2023 for the best chicken and waffles in Houston. Their recipe involves marinating the chicken for 24 hours in a chorizo and creole spice mix and using a cornbread waffle topped with a whipped spicy maple butter.

One more thing

Lieberman and Ricks have hopes of bringing back the housemade market offerings and grab-and-go items at the Heights location, which includes selling jarred jams, pickles, salsa, granola and sausages.
